A couple of years ago I was a fool to take a “Free” VPS offer from the company Fortacloud, I did all the process and after several attempts I was granted my account after pay $0.91, which I assumed was to either validate my Paypal account or that was a lifetime payment to setup my new VPS. I was sure that I wasn’t gonna get a great quality VPS, it was most likely an oversold or multiusers one, all I wanted was to set up an IRC bot and some other nonesenses.
This is the misleading offer Fortacloud
Well, after I had my VPS created I was never able to access it. I destroyed it and created again several times and every single SSH access credentials came wrong. Then I tried to open a support ticket which happened to cost $5 each. So they sell you a $1 “Free” VPS but they charge you $5 per each ticket you want to open to solve a problem about their own system? (Now that I think about it more calmly, I tend to think that this “error” is made on purpose to force you to pay for support). Anyhow, I created the ticket, but if you want them to solve it, or just look at it, you need to pay; so I left the ticket open until it closed by itself, however, the bill did came through.
Then I decided to kill the VPS and not use it anymore, I took this decition a month after created it.
Then several bills started to arrive for several ammounts, small ammounts, but damn it’s money. They kept charging me for things I have never used, and when I make a claim they ask me to open a ticket to the sells department… you guess right, that ticket also requires a $5 payment so they can review the case with the promise that if it’s their fault they will make a reimbursement, NO, THANK YOU, I don’t want to keep wasting my money on:
- Something I consider a terrible service.
- Something I never used.
- Something is clearly a mistake on your side.
Here you can see a screenshot of the last claim I did to their sells department:

My advice is to stay away of this company, I don’t know how their other services are, however, if they cannot be honest with the simpliest, I don’t want to imagine how they can be with their premium services. Lets hope that this post helps other users to not fall on this kind of tricky offers and help you stay away from this kind of companies that aren’t fully clear on their operations.
